Nia Williams was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. She earned her Master of Science in Counseling with a concentration in Multicultural Community Counseling and an emphasis in Social Justice Education from San Diego State University. She holds a dual undergraduate degree in Psychology and African American Studies from the University of California, Davis.

Nia began her professional journey as an 8th grade science teacher in South Central Los Angeles where she witnessed firsthand the profound impact that limited access to mental health services has on underserved youth. This experience became the driving force behind her pursuit of a career in counseling and social justice advocacy.

Throughout her career, Nia has remained deeply committed to supporting marginalized communities. She has worked as a therapist at the Black Resource Center at SDSU, offering culturally responsive care to Black students navigating academic, personal, and systemic challenges. She also provided in-home therapy to foster youth through San Diego Youth Services, and served as a therapist at a community center in City Heights. Before coming to Mending Matters, Nia worked with the Guardian Scholars Program at SDSU, serving foster youth, unaccompanied homeless youth, and wards of the court.

Nia is passionate about increasing access to mental health care for marginalized populations. Her work is grounded in social justice, cultural humility, and a deep belief in the healing power of connection, representation, and community-centered care.

In her free time, Nia enjoys traveling, roller skating, creating art, reading, spending time outdoors with her pup, and being with family and friends.
